Do Noneconomic Damage Caps in Medical Malpractice Cases Violate Ohio Constitutional Protections?
Garrett Loyd is an associate Nurse Attorney at Plakas Mannos, where he leverages his dual expertise as both a registered nurse and an attorney to provide exceptional advocacy in medical malpractice litigation, personal injury, wrongful death claims, and general litigation. His unique clinical and legal background allows him to navigate complex medical-legal issues with a deep understanding of healthcare standards, patient care, and the systemic factors that contribute to medical errors.
Mr. Loyd earned his Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from the University of Akron School of Law, graduating first in his class. He earned law school certificates in Health Law, Business Law, and Trial Advocacy & Dispute Resolution. While at Akron Law, Mr. Loyd served as the Executive Editor of Production for the Akron Law Review and was a Teaching Fellow for Legal Writing and Research. His academic excellence was recognized with the Ernest Karam Book Award for outstanding legal research and writing, as well as twelve CALI Excellence for the Future Awards, given to the highest-performing student in a law school course.
Before pursuing a legal career, Mr. Loyd earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing, magna cum laude, and worked as a registered nurse in high-acuity settings, including intensive care, emergency medicine, and organ transplantation. This hands-on clinical experience gives him a comprehensive perspective on injuries, medical conditions, procedures, patient care standards, and the systemic challenges in healthcare that can contribute to medical errors—insight that is invaluable in medical-legal cases.
Mr. Loyd also has experience working on in-house transactional and corporate governance matters as a Contract Administrator at a publicly traded biotechnology company. In 2024, he joined Plakas Mannos as a Nurse Law Clerk, where he provided critical medical-legal support and gained hands-on experience in litigation. Upon graduating, he transitioned into his current role as an Associate Nurse Attorney, where he combines his extensive healthcare and legal knowledge to advocate for clients facing complex legal challenges.
