Denise Houston, Personal Injury Attorney

Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1969, Denise K. Houston is a partner with the firm of Tzangas, Plakas, Mannos & Raies, Ltd. Ms. Houston has been in practice since 1995 and is admitted to practice before all Ohio Courts and the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio.

Ms. Houston has been recognized as a Rising Star by Ohio Superlawyers Magazine for 2008 and 2009.  She has also been recognized as a 2009 Avvo Top Lawyer as rated by Avvo.com. 

Ms. Houston's practice focuses primarily on litigation, including personal injury in the form of automobile accidents, motorcycle accidents, and premises liability, wrongful death, defamation, and family law matters including divorce, dissolution, civil protection orders, child custody, and child support. Ms. Houston also practices in the areas of workers' compensation, criminal defense, and traffic law, including DUI and DWI.

Ms. Houston is a 1991 graduate of DePauw University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in Philosophy. While in college, Ms. Houston was an active member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, participated in a variety of philanthropic programs such as Habitat for Humanity, and studied abroad in Athens, Greece.

In 1995, Ms. Houston went on to graduate from the University of Akron School of Law where she received her juris doctorate. During her years at the University of Akron School of Law, Ms. Houston was a member of the University's trial team and worked with the University's Appellate Review Office on a variety of criminal cases pending at the appellate level, which included issues involving habeus corpus relief and post conviction relief. Part of her responsibilities at the Appellate Review Office included arguing cases in front of the Ninth District Court of Appeals. She was also one of the original members of the School of Law's Phi Delta Phi chapter.

Currently, Ms. Houston is a member of the Stark County Bar Association and a member of the Family Law Subcommittee for the Stark County Bar Association. She is also a member of the Akron Bar Association and the Family Law Subcommittee for that particular association. On a state and national level, Ms. Houston is a member of the Ohio and American Bar Associations and the Stark County, Ohio and American Associations for Justice.  She also serves as the Secretary for the Ohio Association for Justice.

Ms. Houston uses her litigation experience to assist the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education by volunteering as a judicial panelist for the academic high school Ohio Mock Trial Competition.
